Simulators
If you already have a mining equipment simulator you know that it provides new hires with consistent training, because everyone works through the same hand/eye coordination and related exercises, and they do so in a logical order. This enables you to establish performance benchmarks and elevate the proficiency of all of your equipment operators.

You can also use a simulator to pre-screen new hires and identify those with the greatest natural aptitude for operating equipment.

But there can be challenges if using a simulator as your core equipment training tool:

Most trainees do not have any idea of what to do once they are in the seat of the simulator

The simulator can become a bottleneck - Only one person at a time can operate the simulator

Simulators typically teach the muscle memory but not the "why", Adult learners want to know why they are doing something

Simulators don't typically provide the trainee a "big picture" view of how productivity can make or break a mine - the result can be an unproductive operator who does not understand their part in the operation of the mine
