PC-Based Equipment Simulators: Cost-Effective Hands-On Training Tools

The Electric Rope Shovel Personal Simulator puts you at the controls of an electric rope shovel at work in a typical mine site, in interaction with a simulated Mining Truck.

Many different kinds of situations are presented, in order to address the training needs of a wide variety of customers using different operational practices.

You can either use your own PC or choose the convenience of our PC bundle with the software already installed, licensed, and ready to go in English, French, or Spanish. You can even use the keyboard function keys and mouse controls during the simulation to change the point of view.

Electric Rope Shovel Software Description

There are eight Simulation Modules of increasing difficulty, starting with Controls Familiarization. The final modules combine elements of dipper fill at the rock face, and cab-side or blind-side truck loading. A simulated Mining Truck is built right in, to help teach truck spotting interaction.

Simulation Modes

  • Controls Familiarization

  • Shovel Positioning

  • Following Grade

  • Single-Pass Digging

  • Cab-side Dumping

  • Blind-side Dumping

  • Cab-side Loading

  • Blind-side Loading

Key Performance Indicators

Twenty-eight (28) unique key Performance Indicators measure how quickly and how carefully the simulated work is performed including execution time, dipper fill, boom jacking, time spent in hoist limit and crowd/retract limit slowdown conditions, and the occurrence of collisions. In this way, the feedback is diagnostic, instead of just a consolidated pass/fail score.

Tracking Results

Simulation results are automatically saved, so trainees can progress at their own pace without trainer supervision. To simplify record keeping, VISTA Training offers a database product called Simulation Manager, and the same database can be used with the simulators we offer.

Software Pricing

Please contact us for pricing of a commercial software license for the electric rope shovel simulator. This power shovel software is sold bundled with the following items:

  • The software license for the Electric Rope Shovel simulation software

  • The software license for Simlog's Simulation Manager

  • The replica controls and travel case

Software Description

Electric Rope Shovel Simulator Controls

Simlog’s Replica Controls for the Electric Rope Shovel Personal Simulator feature industrial strength joysticks each equipped with two push-buttons, one for the thumb and the other for the index finger.

The interface electronics are built right into the base, so the joysticks can be connected directly to your PC using the USB connectors.

Vibration System

Vibration increases the realism of our Personal Simulators by adding physical (tactile) feedback to the audio and visual, making the experience more “immersive” at little additional cost, especially when compared to a motion platform.

The vibration that you feel is generated from the simulation software’s audio system as things happen. Engine idling, collisions with obstacles, digging virtual terrain, etc. can all be seen, heard and experienced! Adding vibration improves the realism of the simulation and makes the simulator-based training more compelling, encouraging trainees to be more serious and learn more carefully.

For our Operator Chairs, Simlog offers a vibration system that includes the “ButtKicker Simulation Kit” plus special mounting for the operator seat. The “ButtKicker” is a low-frequency sound transducer equipped with its own amplifier and “volume” controller to change the “force” of the vibration created by the simulation software sounds.
